The Queen of England used the Drum horse in various military regiments and during her processions. The Drum horse carries two large kettle drums, tack and a fully outfitted rider. The rider controls his Drum horse by reins attached to the riders feet. The Drum horse must remain calm and quiet in crowds of thousand of people.
The Drum horse is a cross between a Gypsy and a Shire or a Clydesdale. With this cross you get the large size, wonderful temperament, great movement and beautiful looks, but a lighter body. The Drum horse is an awesome choice for many disciplines, from dressage, driving or even the perfect mount for the larger then average rider.
The Gypsy people have been selectively breeding these horses for years. It's know by several names, the Gypsy Vanner, Irish Tinker, Gypsy Cob to name a few. The Gypsy people bred these horses to have the stamina to pull their wagons all day long but yet be small and gentle enough for the childe to handle. The Gypsy people breed the perfect family horse. This is a VERY well mannered Gypsy gelding my daughter has, however....because of her riding attire or lack of it, her ability to ride isn't the greatest yet and because I'm an over protective mom, she was not alone in these pictures. Thanks to computers I edited myself out. So those of you that may gasp at her not having a helmet and other proper gear on...I was holding her Gypsy as well as her the entire time.
